Born in Norfolk she was a domestic worker and the widow of Seymour F. Hyman. She was an active member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, Chesapeake, where she was a deaconess, a member of the Usher Board and Evangelist Committee, and a missionary. Mrs. Hyman was also a member of the NAACP. She was the daughter of the late Ella Thornton and James E. Thornton. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Joan O. Maben and her husband, Tony Maben, of Virginia Beach; three sons, Alfred G. Hyman of Norfolk, Gary L. Hyman and his wife, Joyce Hyman, of Portsmouth and Revelle S. Hyman of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Francis M. Mitchell, Mary E. Hodges and Versaray V. Norman; a brother, Roland L. Thornton; grandchildren, Lionel R. Hyman, Gerald L. Hyman, Kenneth M. Johnson, Anthony J. McGlone, Sandy S. Clayton, Sheila R. McGlone, Tracy Hyman, and Michael G. McGlone; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by the family dog, Lacy. A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Chesapeake, by Dr. Donald F. Taylor.
