Hyslop, Fireman, Band Member, Dies NORFOLK - Alvah Bell Hyslop Sr., 62, Norfolk fireman and member of the Fireman's Band, died Friday at 2:05 a.m. in a Norfolk hospital. A lifelong resident of Norfolk, he resided at 225 W. 30th St. He was the husband of Mrs. Charlotte Burton Hyslop and son of Denward P. and Mrs. Carrie Lydia Whitehurst Hyslop. He had been in the employ of the Norfolk Fire Division for 19 years and played in the band. He was a member of the Christian Temple and a member of American Legion Post 36. An Army veteran of World War I, he was in the 29th Infantry Division. Besides his wife, surviving are one son, Alvah B. Hyslop Jr.; one sister, Mrs. George F. Woodhouse; one granddaughter, Miss Nancy Cheryl Hyslop; two grandsons, Alvah B. Hyslop and John Keith Hyslop, all of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Sunday at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
