He was the son of Jno. C. and Anne Haley Hyslop and was born on the Eastern Shore, Va. December 28, 1832 and died at the ripe old age of 79 years. His parents came to Berkley when he was only three years old and for 76 years he has been a contributor to its growth, always public spirited and keenly interested in its affairs. He was a steady, quiet and unoffending citizen, always seeking to help humanity and never rejoicing at its misfortunes. During the Civil War he was recognized to be more valuable as a mechanic than a soldier and was detailed for duty at the Norfolk navy yard. He helped to build the famous Merrimac and the fort at Sewell's Point and always referred to it with a high sense of pride. The last five years of his life he was superintendent of the Magnolia cemetery and was anxious in his care of it and the interest of those whom he served. Even after his health began to fail he labored earnestly. He is survived by a widow and two sons - W. T. Hyslop and Leonard Hyslop, Jr. His funeral will take place from his late residence, 71 Walnut street, at 3 p.m. Tuesday. ********************************************************************** The funeral of the late Leonard Hyslop, Sr., who died Sunday morning, will be conducted from the residence, 71 Walnut street, this afternoon at 3 o'clock.
