She had retired after over 27 years as a sales lady at Center Shops in Norfolk. She was born in Norfolk, was the daughter of the late Sarah Hughes and John R. Burton Sr. and was the widow of Alvah B. Hyslop Sr. Mrs. Hyslop was a member of Bayside Christian United Church of Christ. Survivors include a son, Alvah B. Hylsop Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, David Burton of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Alvah B. Hyslop III of Virginia Beach, Cheryl Newell of Sacramento, Calif., Susan Ballard of Olympia, Wash., John Hyslop of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery by Dr. Richard E. Prince. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. The family will receive friends at 7202 Newport Ave., Apt. 30, Norfolk. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
