Oliver Funeral Apartments August 18, 2020 Catherine D. Ibarra entered eternity peacefully on August 16. She died at home. She was the daughter of Charles and Mary Davison. She is preceded in death by her spouse Jorge Ibarra, M. D., her sisters, Mary McKee Pastor, Margaret Melrose Fuentes and Ann McLennan. She is survived by her children, Catherine, George and Robert Ibarra, grandchildren Joshua Westerman, Leighann Martin and Victoria Ibarra, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was born in Bristol, England, raised in Mexico City, Mexico, moved to the US in the mid-1950's and was naturalized in the late 1960's. She worked in Mexico City as a bilingual secretary for A. P. Green and the American Foot and Mouth Disease Dept. She reported to two bosses, one in the U.S. and one in Mexico. She later worked for J. P. Coats. In the early 1950's she was married in Saint Louis, Missouri, and worked for U. S. Lines shipping. After raising her family, she was office manager for her husband's surgical practice. She mentored many children and was a mother- figure to more than her immediate family. Her 3 favorite volunteer activities were teaching middle school Spanish at Saint Pius X Catholic School, organizing routes for Meals on Wheels and the Trinity Missions. She lived most of her adult life in Norfolk, VA and enjoyed 12 wonderful years at Atlantic Shores in Virginia Beach in independent living. She was known for her grace, generosity of spirit and kindness. A mass of Christian burial will be conducted Friday, August 21, 2020 at 10:30 AM in Star of the Sea Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel.
