NORFOLK - Jorge Ibarra, M.D. passed away peacefully May 25, 2008, at Sentara Leigh 
Hospital.

Born in Mexico City, Mexico Dec. 13, 1927, he was the son of the late Melquiades 
and Esperanza Ibarra. After receiving his medical degree from Universidad Nacional 
Autonoma de Mexico, he served his internship at St. Mary's Hospital, East St. 
Louis, Ill., followed by a one-year internal medicine residency and a four-year 
surgical residency at Missouri Pacific Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. He became an 
American citizen in 1969.

Dr. Ibarra practiced surgery for 27 years at Leigh Memorial, Sentara Leigh, 
Chesapeake General and Bayside Hospitals. After closing his practice in 1990, he 
provided medical services to the Virginia Dept. of Corrections.

Dr. Ibarra was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Norfolk. He is survived by 
his wife of 54 years, Catherine Davison Ibarra and their children, Catherine A. 
Ibarra of Richmond, George B. Ibarra of Norfolk and Robert A. Ibarra and his wife 
Cheryl of Chesapeake. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joshua G. 
Westerman and Victoria L. Ibarra; his brother, Antonio Cervantes and sister, Elisa 
Fabila of Mexico City, Mexico, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Pius X Catholic Church. 
The family will receive friends in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. 
from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
