He was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Irby and a native of Blackstone. He had lived in Norfolk more than 50 years having operated a grocery at Goff and Chicazola Streets until his retirement in 1957. He was a member of the First Baptist Church on Bute Street for 55 years. He was deacon of the church and former chairman of the finance committee. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Dorothy Irby and Miss Anna Irby and one son, Cecil C. Irby, all of Norfolk; one brother, Willie Irby of Blackstone. The body was taken to the Hale Funeral Home. ************************************************************************ Edward Irby Rites Set for Saturday Funeral services for Edward Irby of 830 Goff St., who died Tuesday, will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, Bute Street, Saturday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. E. Paul Simms, pastor. Burial will be in the family plot in Calvary Cemetery with the Hale Funeral Home in charge.
