The cortege was formed at the house as follows: Naval Post Band, Chambers and Independent Fire Companies, the Order of Elks, Norfolk and Portsmouth Lodges; carriages, and citizens in line on the sidewalks The remains were conveyed to St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where a requiem mass was celebrated, after which the remains were conveyed to the Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk and interred. The funeral ceremonies were conducted by Rev. Father Hanley. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Henry A. Campbell, Willie Linn, John W. Borum, William Schroeder, William G. Parker, John Hogan, R. G. McFerras and Chief Engineer of the Fire Department, Thomas Robinson. The casket was covered with a handsome collection of floral offerings, and on the top of one of the carriages was an elk's head, composed of beautiful flowers The funeral was one of the largest that has occurred in the city for years.
