Ives, one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of the town, died at his residence on Main street and Maple avenue, yesterday morning between 4 and 5 o'clock. The deceased was confined to his home eight weeks with a complication of diseases, heart trouble principally, and had been in declining health for several months. His death, however, was not looked for as he was thought to be very much better Friday. The deceased was 60 years of age and was born near Blackwater, Princess Anne County, but had been almost a life long resident of Norfolk County and Berkley. Until a few years ago he trucked on an extensive scale. He served in the Confederate army, in the Sixty-first Virginia Regiment, and was wounded several times. About five years ago he received the appointment of road commissioner, which position he held at the time of his death. He was one of the oldest members of Providence Christian Church. He was a son of the late W.W. Ives and leaves a widow, nee Miss Kattie Ottley, three daughters, Misses Mary, Lola and Fannie Will Ives and four sisters, Mrs. James Y. Old, Mrs. H.L. Graves, Misses Lottie and Laura Ives, and four brothers, Messrs, Alonzo, L.C. William, and George Ives. Mr Ives was a highly esteemed citizen and his death is largely mourned. The funeral will take place from the family residence Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. ************************************************************** The funeral services of Mr. Curtis O. Ives were conducted from the family residence, at Main street and Maple avenue, yesterday at 3 o'clock p.m. by Dr. J.P. Barrett, D.D., of Christian Memorial Temple, Norfolk, assisted by Rev. Dr. C.M. Connant, of St. Thomas Episcopal Church; Rev. H.H. Butler, of Suffolk and Rev. M.P. Porter, of Main Street Christian Church. The remarks by the different clergymen were very impressive. It was perhaps one of the most elaborate funeral services held in the town for a number of months and was attended by a host of friends and relatives of the deceased and family. The various floral designs, contributed as a mark of esteem, were exquisite in beauty and artistic in arrangement. Bouquet after bouquet was placed on and about the casket, until the deceased slept beneath a bed of flowers. The remains were conveyed to their last resting place, in Magnolia Cemetery, where the services were concluded. The following were the pallbearers: Messrs. D.C. Foreman, C.H. Williams, F.L. Portlock, W.B. Williams, S.Bland, S.W. Lyons, T.W. Butt and Dr. G.N. Halstead.
