Jackson, aged 33 years, a popular young resident of the Fourth Ward, died at 5 o'clock this morning at the Craney Island Hospital from smallpox. He was taken with the disease last week and it appeared from the very first that his recovery would be almost impossible. A sad feature of the case is that he was engaged to a young lady in Atlantic City ward, who was today almost prostrated from grief. Mr. Jackson was popular among a large circle of friends. His original home was in Pittsylvania county, Va., but he had worked in Newport News as a street car motorman up to his coming to Norfolk. He was at the time of his death a valued employee of Duke & Co., furniture dealers, on upper Church street. The funeral took place at the grave in Elmwood at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
