Jackson of the 900 block of Widgeon Road departed this life to be with the Master Tuesday July 23, 1997. She was born Aug. 21, 1915, in New Orleans, La., to the late Joseph and Sarah Hayden Turner and educated in the New Orleans public school system. She later attended the University of New Orleans where she received her B.S. degree in dietetics. She was married to the late Ernest L. Jackson. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, for more than 50 years. She was a member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Eastern Star-Margaret Francis Chapter No. 101, O.E.S., the Dorcas Class and Seniors in Action - First Baptist Church. She worked as a dietitian for Norfolk Community Hospital for a number of years and later retired from the Norfolk public school system as a cafeteria supervisor after 30 years of service. She leaves to cherish her memories two uncles, the Rev. Thomas Hayden of New Orleans and the Rev. Dan Washington of Destrehand, La.; niece, Barbara S. Foster of Chesapeake; nephew, Edward H. Smith Jr., and wife, Ruth, of Norfolk, who have always been there for her throughout the years as well as during her confinement; two cousins, Hickie Turner and Willie Bradford of New Orleans; and a host of grand nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will also be missed greatly by her grand niece, Marcia L. Smith. A funeral will be conducted Monday, July 28, at First Baptist Church, Bute St., at noon by Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The family will receive guests at 977 Wolcott Ave., Norfolk, where they will assemble at 11 a.m. Monday for the procession. The remains will be in the church at 10 a.m. Monday. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
