James G. Jackson, one of oldest Confederate veterans in the city, died last night at his residence, 1303 East Brambleton avenue. He was 92 years of age. He had been remarkably active up until a few months before his death, and was able to attend a celebration of the Pickett-Buchanan Camp, Confederate Veterans, this past January. Captain Jackson was a native of Ocracoke, N.C, and had been a resident of this section for a number of years. He was a member of the Church of Christ (Disciples). Besides his wife, Mrs. Sarah E. Jackson, he is survived by five sons, James L. Jackson, of Clarksboro, N.J., H.E. Jackson, of Richmond, Ralph Jackson, of Hopewell, Carl A. Jackson and Andrew J. Jackson, of Norfolk; two daughters, Mrs. A.L. Bengal, of New Bern, N.C., and Mrs. S.E. Davis, of Norfolk; 15 grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ****************** Capt. James G. Jackson -- Funeral services for Captain Jackson, who died Friday night, will be held at the residence, 1303 East Brambleton avenue, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with the Rev. H.E. Harden, pastor of the Church of Christ (Disciples) and the Rev. Benjamin Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
