He had for several days been in good health and was out Saturday looking after his property and chatting with friends. He ate a hearty supper last night and went to the sitting room to read his paper and lapsed into unconsciousness in a few minutes, He died a few minutes later. he was paralyzed four years ago, but gradually recovered. Mr. Jacocks lead a very active life, both in business and in politics. He was a member of the Berkley town council five years, served on the board of harbor commissioners several years. He was a Confederate veteran, having served in Company I, Seventh Regiment, North Carolina Volunteers, three and a half years. He was captured at Roanoke Island, N.C. and paroled. He was born at Nags Head, N.C., August 7,1841, but lived at Durants Neck, Perquimans County, until 1881, when he moved to Berkley. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Catharine Harrell Jacocks, and four children, Misses Grizzell Lee and Estelle Augusta Jacocks and Jonaathan Wilber Jacocks of Berkley, and Henry Morgan Jacocks of Saltville, Va. He was one of the early directors of the Merchants and Planters bank and director of the Chesapeake Building and Loan Association. The funeral arrangements had not been completed last night. ****************************************************************** The funeral of Jonathan Henry Jacocks was conducted yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his residence, 105 Main street, by Rev. W.H. Osborne, rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, assisted by Rev. E.T. Dadmun, pastor of Memorial M.E. Church and Rev. A.W. Shaw, pastor of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church. There were many beautiful floral designs and the funeral was very largely attended. The members of the Lee Lodge, No. 48, K. of P., of which he was a member, assisted in the services. Burial was in the family lot, Magnolia Cemetery and the following were pallbearers: J.J. Otley, L. Berkley, J.J. Parkerson, W.W. Robertson, J.C. Simpson, C.H. Williams, G.D. Williams and Russell A. McCoy. Among those from out-of-town who attended the funeral were: Henry M. Jacocks of Saltville, Mrs. K.S. Harrell and Miss Elizabeth Morgan of Suffolk.
