A native of Richmond, she came here to live when a child. Her parents were Roland Franklin and Mrs. Katie Odend’hal James. She had resided for many years with her sister, Mrs. H. C. Paxon, Sr., in Indian River Park. Miss James started her teaching career at the turn of the century in a one- room school at Oaklette, Norfolk County. She later taught at the old Charlotte Street School, Robert Gatewood School, in Berkley, and finally at John Marshall. She had the fifth and sixth grades, and entered retirement about 12 years ago. She was a life member of the National Education Association, a member of the Norfolk Woman’s Club, the Norfolk Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the McKendree Methodist Church. Besides Mrs. Paxon, surviving are one brother, C. W. James, of Norfolk, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk at 4 p.m tomorrow. Burial will be private in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family requested that flowers be omitted.
