I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; That where I am, there ye may be also." This beautiful passage from John 14:2-3 concurs with the thinking of the members of the James family, as they bow in humble submission to the will of God in the passing of their loved one May 25, 2004. Miss Julia E . James was born in Danville, Va., Oct. 5, 1910. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Frederick W. and Mrs. Olive C. James . She received her early education in Norfolk public schools and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She was a holder of a B.S. degree from Virginia State College, Petersburg, Va. and a M.A. degree in French from the University of Michigan. She did a year in residence in Paris, France. Miss James taught at Booker T. Washington High School for a number of years and retired in 1970 from Norfolk public schools. At an early age she joined First Baptist Church and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday school class. She was a life member of the National Education Association, was a member of an organization for French teachers and held membership in the National Retired Teachers Association. Our dear departed one bore her illness with patience and fortitude and greeted her family and friends with her usual warm smile almost to the end, urging them not to worry because her fate was in Gods hands. She leaves to mourn their loss two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Senabell James and Mrs. Dora James ; three nephews; and a faithful and dedicated caregiver, Mrs. Viola Madison-Foreman. A celebration of her life will be held today at noon in First Baptist Church, Bute Street, with the Rev. Dr. Robert G. Murray officiating. Miss James may be viewed from 10 a.m. to noon today at the church. The family will receive friends during that time period. Chatman/ E .A. Hughes Funeral Home is in charge.
