Norfolk Journal and Guide, Feb 25,1961
Mrs. Bertha James, 67, of 846 Bank street, was given final rites recently at 
Solid Rock Disciples Church, with the Rev. Alex Varner officiating.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.  Riddick Funeral Service handled arrangements.

A native of Elizabeth City, NC, Mrs. James is survived by her husband Lewis 
James;  daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Jackson of Brooklyn and Mrs. Bernice Brothers of 
Norfolk;  and three sisters, Mrs. Eva Nimmo, Miss Carrie Jacox and Miss Laura 
Jacox of Brooklyn.
