A native of Scotland Neck, NC, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary James and a son of the late Henry and Mrs. Sarah (Farror)James. He was a deacon of First Baptist Church, Bute street, and member of Campbell Masonic Lodge 67, Knights of Pythians, and Odd Fellows. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Daisy Smith of Norfolk; and two grandchildren. A funeral service was held in First Baptist Church, Bute street, by the Rev. E. Paul Simms. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
