James of 1407 Church St. died Friday in her home. A native of Norfolk, she was a daughter of Frank and Mrs. Mary Mercer and the wife of Ernest H. James. She was a deaconess, missionary and a member of Zion Building Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, and Phyllis Wheatley Tents. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Daisy James Smith of Norfolk; a brother, Frank Mercer of Norfolk; two sisters, Miss Julia Mercer of Norfolk and Mrs. Daisy Haynes of New York; and two grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church by the Rev. E. P. Simms. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Hale Funeral Home in charge. The body will be in church at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
