Born in Norfolk, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Booth Forrest, Sr., and Sarah Buchanan Forrest. Betty was a devoted wife and mother to her family, being at home raising her children in her early years. After her children were out of school, she had that drive to continue her education and obtained her master's degree with honors from Western Carolina University in English and soon took a position as an English Professor at Montreat College in Montreat, NC. After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Hope McMullan James, Jr.; daughter, Amy Sue Peace and husband, Jeff of Asheville, NC; sons, Scott McMullan James and wife, Jennifer of Swannanoa, NC, and Edwin "Ted" Forrest James of Asheville, NC; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
