Mr. James was a native of Norfolk. He had retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station after 28 years. He was the widower of Addie James and was a member of United House of Prayer for All People. Survivors include two daughters, Velma James of Norfolk and Constance E. Robinson of Long Beach, Calif.; a son, Welton James of Norfolk; seven grandchildren including Earlene P. Speller of Portsmouth; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral will be held at noon Saturday in Riddick Funeral Service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The family will be at 1218 Lakeview Drive, Portsmouth, the home of Charles and Earlene Speller.
