W. JARVIS, BUILDER, DEAD Was Widely Known In Tidewater Construction Circles FUNERAL SERVICES SATURDAY MORNING Charles W. Jarvis, 61, widely known building contractor's superintendent of Norfolk, died at his residence 2717 Ballentine Boulevard, last night at 11:30 p.m. He had lived in Norfolk for the last 42 years. Mr. Jarvis was employed by the R.R. Richardson Co. at the time of his death. Prior to going with that firm in 1934 he was connected with the Johnson Construction Co. He was a native of Ocean City, Md. He was superintendent during the construction of such buildings as the Norva Theatre, Nansemond Hotel, the Elliott Hotel and Professional Building in Suffolk, the University of Virginia class rooms and other structures in this state. Besides his wife, Mrs. Birdie Walker Jarvis, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Ryan, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three sons, C.W. Jarvis Jr. and John W. Jarvis, both of Norfolk and Raymond Jarvis, of Asheville, N.C. and one grandson. The body will be taken from the residence to St. Mary's Catholic Church for funeral services Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. ******************************************************************************* Charles W. Jarvis - The body of Mr. Jarvis, whose death occurred Wednesday night, was taken from the residence, 2717 Ballentine Boulevard, to St. Mary's Catholic Church for funeral services this morning at 10 o'clock. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Rev. F.V. Bambrick officiated with Charles and John Jarvis, sons of the deceased, serving as altar boys. The Rev. Thomas Walsh and the Rev. Francis Blakely were present in the sanctuary. There was a large attendance and many floral offerings. The casket was covered with a pall of Easter lilies, white asters and ferns. Several selections were rendered during the service by the choir of St. Mary's Academy, with Miss Anna Gargano, accompanist. In his address at the conclusion of the mass Father Bambrick paid tribute to the Christian life and character of Mr. Jarvis. Services at the grave were conducted by Father Bambrick, Father Walsh and Father Blakely. The pallbearers were R. Redwood Richardson, Robert B. Walls, William S. Bowden, Jr., John Godfrew, Olaf Hanson, William J. Walsh, Thomas P. Thompson, M.M. Wills and Edgar J. Gerloff.
