Jarvis Removes Son's Body From Potters Field The remains of the 13-year-old lad found floating off Craney Island in the lower harbor on April 25, which were interred, unidentified, in the county Potter's Field on the South Street Road, were disinterred yesterday by Funeral Directors Sturtevant and Specht of this city and claimed by the father and identified as Hunter T. Jarvis, who lived in Riverside, Brambleton Ward, Norfolk. On the fifth day of April Hunter Jarvis went boating in the harbor with another lad of about the same age. From that time until yesterday he had been missing. His parents knew nothing of his whereabouts and his companion has been absent too. When the body was found off the island twenty days after the disappearance of the two boys the county authorities were unable to identify it so it was buried. Yesterday the Jarvis boy's father, hearing of the discovery of the body, came to Portsmouth and sought information regarding the body at Justice Rodman's office. There the justice had preserved a belt and the collar found upon the drowned lad's body. Cuff buttons, also taken from the remains, were quickly identified by Mr. Jarvis. This evidence was so conclusive that he ordered the disinterment of the body. He at once claimed it as that of his son. The remains were taken to Norfolk and reinterred in Elmwood Cemetery, Rev. George W. Wray, pastor of the McKendree Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, officiating. It seems that the discovery of the Jarvis boy's body in this city yesterday led to the subsequent disclosure of his companion's remains, which were buried in the Potter's Field, Norfolk after they had been taken from the river.
