Virginian-Pilot,  Sunday, August 3, 2003 
NORFOLK - Jean Stephens Jarvis, 88, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 in a local 
hospital. Born in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Ruth 
Brown Stephens and James Carlyle Stephens and the widow of John Cooke Jarvis 
Sr. She was a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, John C. Jarvis Jr. of Norfolk; three sisters, Dorothy 
C. Stephens of Virginia Beach, Helen S. Taylor of Charlotte, N.C. and Mary S. 
Griffin of Norfolk.

No services are planned and her burial will be private. The family requests 
that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Cox 
Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
