Miss Javins was found dead in her home in the 800 block of Rugby street Wednesday night after neighbors had failed to see her for two days. Medical Examiner’s officers investigators said indications were that she had been dead for that period of time. Miss Javins had, however, served as a substitute teacher at Bowling Park elementary school Monday and staffspeople there said there was no evidence of illness. “She was her old jolly self.” Miss Javins’ body was found in her home by police officers summoned by neighbors. The neighbors had knocked on her door and contacted the police department when they received no reply. A spokesman for the medical examiner’s office said there was no immediate evidence of foul play at the death site. Miss Javins had been a substitute teacher in the Norfolk school system for nine years and was well-liked by her fellow teachers, and, the principals, the Guide was told. She was a graduate of local schools and Hampton Institute. Active in civic and social affairs, Miss Javins was for many years the secretary of the Nacirema Club of the Phyllis Wheatley Branch YWCA. She had attended several state and national YW meetings as representative of the local branch. Miss Javins also once served as the secretary to the executive board of the Norfolk Branch NAACP and was instrumental in organizing the state meeting of the association held here a decade ago. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute street, and a member of the Hospitality Committee there. She also held numerous other affiliations. Her mother was the late Mrs. Mattie H. Javins who retired as a teacher from the Norfolk school system in 1950 after teaching for 29 years. Funeral arrangements had not been set as the Guide went to press Thursday.
