Dr. J. Jasper Freeman, pastor, officiated. A native of Mecklenburg County, VA, Mrs. Jefferson was the daughter of Leon and Lara Jones. She came to Norfolk when she was 13 years old. She was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church about 50 years. She served her church as president of the Rose of Sharon Club and the gospel choir. She was a member of theNeighborhood Club and the deaconess board. Mrs. Jefferson was an active worker in her church, and cooperated with the various groups in the church as long as she was able to do so. Mrs. Jefferson is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lara V. Wells, Mrs. Ida P. Fuller, and Mrs. Evelyn Nichols; three sons, the Rev. S. E. Pugh, Archie Pugh and William R. Pugh; 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; one niece, Mrs. Vandelia Thomas, and other relatives. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with King Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
