Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Ruth W. Jenkins and John B. Jenkins, Jr. Charles was a graduate of Maury High School, V.M.I., and Washington and Lee Law School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a former President and Director of The Lincoln-Lane Foundation and past Commodore and lifetime member of the Norfolk Boat Club. Charles enjoyed a lengthy career practicing law alongside his colleagues and friends. He was an avid reader and historian and relished a good debate. His love for baseball transpired at an early age and never faded. He openly shared his passion and enthusiasm for the mountains and rivers and encouraged our exploration of the great outdoors. Above all, Charles was a kind and generous man, open with his heart and proud of his family. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Carolyn M. Jenkins; his children, Morgan Jenkins (Sandi) and Tricia Shotton (Dave), and grandson Jack Shotton; stepchildren, Susan Gorog (Jon), Blair Moore, Walter Moore (Andrea), John Moore (Stephanie) and step-grandchildren Jonathan, Gregory, Kelly, and Colby Gorog, Amanda and Erica Moore, Savannah Moore; devoted sister, Eunice J. Payne; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1st in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Semper Fi Fund at www.semperfifund.org/donate. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel is handling arrangements.
