NORFOLK - Mrs. James Iredell Jenkins, 86, well-known in Norfolk artistic and 
philanthropic circles, died Tuesday at 6:08 p.m.
A Norfolk native, Mrs. Jenkins was Miss Mary Louisa Dobie before her marriage to 
James Iredell Jenkins, now dead.
SUPT.'S DAUGHTER
She was the daughter of Richard Augustus Dobie, Norfolk school superintendent 
many years, and Mrs. Margaret Cooke Dobie.
Mrs. Jenkins had been a board member of Norfolk General Hospital since 1906. 
During the influenza epidemic after World War I, she operated a private hospital 
in Walter Herron Taylor School building. She also was keenly interested in the 
artistic and cultural life of Norfolk.
She was a member of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
SURVIVORS
Mrs. Jenkins is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Wilson E. Driver of Norfolk; a son, 
Iredell Jenkins of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a brother, retired U.S. Circuit Judge, 
Armistead M. Dobie of Charlottesville; two granddaughters, Mrs. George E. Hogan 
Jr. of Virginia Beach and Mrs. William Bridgers of Silver Spring, Md.; a 
grandson, Armistead Dobie Jenkins of Palo Alto, Calif.; and two great-
grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted in Selden Chapel of Christ and St. Luke's 
Episcopal Church Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Peyton R. Williams, D.D., 
rector. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family 
requests that contributions be sent to Norfolk General Hospital.
