A partner in John S. Jenkins & Co., a cotton firm started by his father, he was one of a group of cotton executives who contributed to Norfolk's prosperity in the first half of this century. The last remaining cotton firm in the city, John S. Jenkins & Co., was dissolved in 1968. He was an executive with Dixie Manufacturing Co. until his retirement several years ago. He served on the board of directors of American Package Corp, and the Atlantic & Danville Railroad. A native of Portsmouth, he lived in Norfolk most of his life. His late parents were John Summerfield and Mrs. Mary MacKenzie Jenkins. He attended Norfolk Academy and Episcopal High School. He was a 1921 graduate of the University of Virginia and was elected to membership in The Raven Society while a student. He also was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He served for a number of years on the board of trustees of Episcopal High School. He served in the Army in World War I. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, and Princess Anne Country Club. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margaret Godwin Jenkins, and a daughter, Mrs. Edward R. Willcox Jr., both of Norfolk; a son, William MacKenzie Jenkins Jr. of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mrs. Westmore Willcox of McLean, Va.; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday at noon in First Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations may be made to the United Communities Fund. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments is handling arrangements.
