The son of W.M. Jenkins and Margaret G. Jenkins, he lived in the Tidewater area his entire life and devoted much of his life supporting and nourishing the region. After attending Episcopal High School and graduating from the University of Virginia, Mac enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Macon. Upon leaving the Navy, he joined Dixie Manufacturing Corporation, a longtime family business. His vision and enthusiasm for the community was something Mac believed in and can be seen by his association with numerous affiliations. Some of these were: president of the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, president of Junior Achievement of Tidewater, one of the founders of the Greater Norfolk Corporation and general chairman of the International Azalea Festival. Mac also served as chairman of the board for WHRO TV. In addition to his belief in community, he served as chairman of the board at Tidewater Health Care, board member of Sovran Bank and was on the board of the Norfolk Academy. As a young man, one of Mac's passions was for the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad in which he served as captain and was a life member. Mac was predeceased by his wife, Pamela Jenkins on Dec. 4, 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Jenkins and his son, Bill Jenkins and daughter-in-law, Alice Jenkins. Mac has four grandchildren he loved very much, Megan Watts, Tyler Watts, Lee Jenkins and Will Jenkins. A memorial service will be held Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 300 36th St., (36th & Pacific Ave.), Virginia Beach, at 11 a.m. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Princess Anne Country Club. A private family burial will be held. Donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or Alzheimer's Foundation. Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com.
