The Virginian Pilot Sunday December 6, 1959
Mrs. Delilah S. Jernigan, 87, of 1136 Perry St., died Saturday at 2:45 p.m. 
in a Norfolk hospital.  She had been in failing health the last four years.
A native of Bertie County, N.C. she had lived in South Norfolk the last 62 
years.  She was a daughter of Darius R. and Mrs. Caroline Miller Mitchell, 
and wife of the late Zacheus R. Jernigan.
She was a member of South Norfolk Baptist Church and Goodwill Council 5, 
Daughters of America.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Van Vleek I and Mrs. Ellis P. 
Cunningham, both of South Norfolk; one granddaughter, Mrs. Warren A. Oliver 
Jr. of Glenn Oaks, Princess Anne County, and one great-grandson, Aaron 
Holmes Oliver.
The body was taken to Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, where a funeral service 
will be held Monday at 2 p.m.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
