He was a retired watchman for the Norfolk Southern Railroad. A native of Powersville, N.C., he had made his home here 55 years. His late parents were James Taylor and Mrs. Athia Ann Bryant Jernigan. He was the husband of the late Edith Anna Wright Jernigan. He was a member of the South Norfolk Baptist Church and of the Norfolk Southern Railroad Association. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. George Sawyer, of Great Bridge; three sons, James L. Jernigan, Norman T. Jernigan, and Horace F. Jernigan, all of South Norfolk; two half-sisters, Mrs. Carol Wallace, of Currituck, N.C. and Mrs. Cecil Wommack, of South Norfolk; four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
