The Norfolk Virginian Pilot April 19, 1940 
Frederick Jochum, one of the best known residents of this section, died 
yesterday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock at his residence, 416 Clifton street, after 
an illness of three years. He was a native of Cincinnati and had made his home 
in this section 28 years. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jochum. 
His only survivor is his wife, Mrs. Tillie Kirkwood Jochum. He enlisted in the 
U.S. Navy in 1895, served on the U.S.S. Boston in the Spanish-American War, and 
was a chief petty officer during the World War. He was a member of Armstrong 
Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson streets, 
South Norfolk, pending funeral arrangements.
