He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Norfolk Naval Air Station and the Norfolk Fire Department. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Ford of Linwood, N.J., and Mrs. Catherine Marzec of Covington, Ga.; two sons, Father Michael Johnakin, C.M., of Panama, and Patrick I. Johnakin of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Coady, and a brother, David E. Johnakin, both of Portsmouth; and four grandchildren. The body was taken from H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to his home to remain until today at 5 p.m., when it will be taken to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Painter Street, for a Christian Wake service tonight at 7:30. A Joyful Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church by the Rev. Fr. Michael Johnakin, the Rev. Thomas Nee and the Rev. James Rizer. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
