Norfolk - Mrs. Hattie V. Johnson of 1061 Rugby St., the widow of Robert O. 
Johnson Sr. and a leader of Bethlehem Church of Christ Disciples, died 
Wednesday in a hospital.

A native of Sunbury NC, she worked for Smith & Welton’s department stores 29 
years and retired.

In Bethlehem Church she was former president of the Senior Choir and Female 
Usher Board and was a member of the Missionary Society.

She also was a past president of the Barraud Park Neighborhood Club, and member 
of the Willing Workers Social and Savings Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gladys J. Williams of Norfolk and Mrs. 
Dorothy J. Mabry of Chesapeake; two sons, Robert O. Johnson, M.D., of Brooklyn, 
and Elliott H. Johnson of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Martha J. Baker of Norfolk; 
four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Bethlehem Church of Christ 
Disciples by the Rev. James A. Moore. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with 
Hale Funeral Home in charge.
