A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of Robert and Mrs. Eleanor Shipp Johnson. She was a founder and past president of the Poets Club of Norfolk and a past president of the Poetry Society of Virginia. She was educated at the old Leache-Wood Seminary here and at the University of Virginia, Harvard College and Longwood College. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She was author of "The Unwilling Gypsy," a collection of early verse and also of many other poems published in the national magazines in this country and in England. She was a member of the Poetry Society of America, the Norfolk Society of Arts, the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities and was on its advisory board of the Norfolk chapter. She was elected as an honorary member of Phi Beta Kappa by the College of William and Mary. Survivors include a nephew, J. Lamar Davis and a great-niece, Miss Julia Davis, both of Virginia Beach. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Roger C. Snyder. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments in charge.
