Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, September 1, 1992 
Mattie Bethea Johnson of the 1500 block of Shipp Ave., a retired domestic
worker, died Aug. 30, 1992, in her home.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Claremont, Va., and was the widow of William A.
Johnson. She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Verona M. Ware of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; four
sons, William E. Bethea and Leroy Bethea Jr., both of Norfolk, Robert L. Bethea
Sr. of Chesapeake and Wilson V. Bethea of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Vernice
Coldwell of Philadelphia and Lenora Dorsey of Norfolk; and several grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in New Calvary Baptist Church
by the Rev. G.G. Campbell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join
the family at 4716 Gosnold Ave. A wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday in Graves Funeral Home.
