He was a son of Mrs. Bertha Johnson and the late Alpheus Johnson. He was a native of Norfolk. The last three years he had been employed at the Cavalier at the beach. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Medical Corps (452nd AAA Battalion). He served in both the European and African Mid-East theaters, and received the Purple Heart. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church for a number of years. Besides his mother, surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Johnson of Evanston, Ill.; two daughters, Carolyn Johnson of Evanston and Otelia Johnson of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Roberson of Norfolk; and one brother, James Edward Johnson of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted at the Hale Funeral Home Chapel Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. W.L. Hamilton, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
