Norfolk Ledger-Dispatch June 5, 1946
John M. Johnson, 79, former resident of Norfolk, died at the Buxton Hospital, 
Newport News, Sunday, according to news received here.
A native of Dinwiddie County, Mr. Johnson was a resident of Norfolk for several 
years. In 1911, he moved to Newport News, where he resided for the last 35 years.
He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. O. L. Ingram, Norfolk; Mrs. W. I. Downey, 
Hampton; Mrs. J. T. Cox and Mrs. R. P. Butler, both of Newport News and Mrs. J. C. 
Walters, Fairmount, Ind., one son, John P. Johnson, of Pleasantville, N.J., 17 
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Friends Church, Newport News, Thursday 
at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
