She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught elementary school for the Norfolk Public Schools for over 37 years. Born in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Shafer Roberts and Leonard Pascal Roberts Jr. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church for over 80 years and was very active in the P.E.O. After her retirement, she loved and enjoyed life; her family and friends will always remember and miss her sweet smile and wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Draper and her husband, James, of Gloucester County, Va.; two sons, Robert P. Johnson and his wife, Carolyn, and William S. Johnson and his wife, Janice, all of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Freemason Street Baptist Church by Dr. Donald L. Dunlap and her son-in-law, the Rev. James W. Draper. Burial will be private in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to celebrate her life are encouraged to do so with donations to Freemason Street Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1739, Norfolk, VA 23501. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
