Virginian-Pilot September 7, 1945
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 78, one-time resident of Norfolk and mother of Mrs. 
O. L. Ingram, of this city, died at her home in Newport News, Tuesday at 9 p.m. 
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Leeds, Yorkshire, England, but had made her home in 
Virginia since she was 19 years old.
She is survived by her husband, John M. Johnson; five daughters, in addition to 
Mrs. Ingram, Mrs. W. I. Downey, of Hampton; Mrs. J. T. Cox and Mrs. R. P. 
Butler, of Newport News, and Mrs. J. C. Walters, of Fairmount, Ind.; one son, 
John P. Johnson, of Pleasantville, N.J.; 19 grandchildren and nine great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Friends Church in Newport News, Sunday 
at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk.
