She was a retired beautician and public school teacher for the city of Norfolk. She was a native of Norfolk and the widow of Samuel W. Johnson Sr. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute St., Norfolk, where she was an active member of various church organizations including the Do All You Can Club. She was a member of the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta and the Norfolk Teachers Association. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Marian Venable of Detroit; two stepsons, Samuel W. Johnson Jr. of Maryland and Theodore Johnson of Delaware. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary Whitehurst Gay and Freddie Gay. Other survivors include, Mrs. Athylone Hardy Winfield of San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Belva J. Keeling of Portsmouth, Mrs. Willie P. Jackson of Portsmouth; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Dr. Robert Murray in First Baptist Church. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery . The remains will be ready for viewing today at 3 p.m. There will be an Omega, Omega Service today at 7 p.m. by the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The public is invited. The remains will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. and the family will assemble at the residence at 12:30 p.m. for the procession. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
