He was a resident of Petersburg, Va., for many years, where he lived with his wife, the late Hilda Johnson. Haywood, as he was fondly called, was retired from the pharmaceutical profession having worked and lived a great number of years in Chicago. One of six children of the late Richard and Alice Reed Johnson, Haywood is preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred, Alexander and Joe, and most recently by a sister, Roberta. He was well-known respected, and active within his community in Petersburg. He was also a long and faithful member of the Eureka Lodge No. 15/F & A Masons, the Keystone Chapter No. 4/Holy Royal Arch Masons, the Saint Mark Commandery No. 3/Knights Templar Mason, and the Petersburg Consistory No. 144/32nd degree and 33rd degree Masons. Since relocating to Norfolk, he has been a member and supporter of First Baptist Church, Bute Street. Survivors include a sister, Willie Flowers of Chicago; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, among whom are Mabel Hoggard, and Eddie Hoggard of Virginia Beach, Theodore U. Johnson, Richard D. Johnson, Vera I. Clarke, Lorraine I. Grady, Melicent E. Demby, Alice H. Hayes, and Mildred Barnes, all of Philadelphia; additionally, the fraternal member of the Prince Hall Masonic family, many friends, associates and acquaintances. The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Church, Bute Street, by Dr. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. today. The family will assemble at the church at 1 p.m. today. Riddick Funeral Service is in charge.
