Norfolk - Mrs. Bessie Mae Johnson of 205 Seekel street, Bolling Brook, was given
a funeral service Sunday in New Mt. Zion AME Church.

Mrs. Johnson, wife of Lafayette Johnson and daughter of Mrs. Ella Johnson, died
July 5 in a hospital.  The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. W. M.
Baxter and she was buried in Calvary Cemetery with Riddick Funeral Home in charge.

She was a stewardess, missionary, and former choir member of New Mt. Zion AME
Church, and a member of St. Andrew Lodge.

Other survivors are a son, Alfred J. Johnson, Sr.,  two daughters, Mrs. Betty
Mae Powell and Mrs. Helen I. Copeland of Norfolk;  two brothers, W. E. Johnson
of Norfolk, J. C. Johnson of Portsmouth;  a sister, Mrs. Minnie Andrews of
Philadelphia;  and 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
