Virginia Beach - Audrey Lee Copeland Johnson was born on May 16, 1927 in 
Norfolk, Virginia. She was the daughter of Mr. Jesse Warren Copeland, Sr. and 
Mrs. Bertha Gray Copeland. A product of Norfolk Public Schools, she graduated 
from Booker T. Washington High School in 1945. As a child she was a member of 
First Calvary Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian all of her life and a 
former member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she held positions on 
the choir, usher board, social services and kitchen ministries. She continued 
her walk with Christ as a devoted member of Total Life Christian Center under 
the pastorship of Dr. Mark S. Churn. Audrey was a wonderful mother and housewife 
for many years before she embarked on other careers. She was a housekeeper for 
several families in the Ghent area for a few years. She then moved on to become 
a life insurance underwriter for the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance 
Company. She was a circulation desk receptionist for Kirn Memorial Library for 
many years, retiring from the city of Norfolk. Finally, in her later years, she 
was employed as a companion aide for Personal Touch Home Care and Hospice. She 
ended her career doing what she began: taking care of people. We are blessed to 
have had our mother, grandmother (19), great-grandmother (41), great-great 
grandmother (6), cousin, relative and friend in our lives. Left to cherish her 
awesome and wonderful memories are her children: Avis S. Brown (Warnermaker) of 
Virginia Beach, VA; Linda K. Johnson-Fardán (Anees) of Savannah, GA; Joseph D. 
Johnson (Julie….deceased) of Sanford, FL ; Joann L. Johnson of Chesapeake, VA; 
Alan C. Johnson of Norfolk, VA; Anthony W. Johnson (Tenesia) of Norfolk, VA and 
a host of relatives and friends. We all give thanks to God for cherishing and 
sustaining her. We give all praises to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A wake 
service will be held Friday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Graves Funeral Home. The 
funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5th at Mt. Lebanon Baptist 
Church, Norfolk, Dr. Mark S. Churn, officiating. The burial will be in Calvary 
Cemetery.
