John V. Johnson Jr., 20, of 733 Chapel St, was killed Saturday at Thua Thien, South Vietnam, during an operation against the enemy, the Defense Department reported Wednesday. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. John V. Johnson Sr. He joined the Marine Corps July 25, 1967, just after graduation from Booker T. Washington High School and trained at Parris Island, S.C., and Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, had played basketball in the Recreation League, and had been a member of Boy Scout Troop 70 at his church. Surviving, besides his parents, are two brothers, Robert and Harold Johnson; five sisters, Mrs. Maria Glover and June, Andrea, Venetia, and Constance Johnson; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Keeling, all of Norfolk. A funeral service for Army Pfc. John Victor Johnson, 20, killed April 20 in Vietnam, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church by the Rev. Harold Gregory. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery with Jones Funeral Home in charge.
