NORFOLK - Joan L. ``J/MA'' Johnson, 54, of the 6100 block of Curlew Drive, died
Feb. 7, 2003 at her residence.

Born in Norfolk, she was a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years
and was also a teacher in Washington, D.C. She was a former member of Mount
Gilead Missionary Baptist Church. Joan graduated from Booker T. Washington in
1966 and from Hampton Institute in 1970.

She is survived by her husband, Percival Johnson of Norfolk; two daughters,
Felicia Crawford of Newport, N.C., and Rosalynn Gaskins of Fort Washington, Md.;
stepdaughters, Delsa Fauconier of Staten Island, N.Y., and Lavette Hunt of
Roanoke, Va.; two sons-in-law, Armandez Crawford of Newport and Anthony Gaskins
II of Fort Washington; mother, Jean B. Lewis; two sisters, twin Jean L. Broadnax
and Rosalyn L. Jackson both of Norfolk; brother, Raleigh Lewis Jr. of Newport
News; grandparent, Florence B. Bennett of Norfolk; six grandchildren, Brianna
Crawford and Arlicia Crawford of Newport, Anthony Gaskins III (Tre) of Fort
Washington, Todd Land of Chesapeake, Chris Hasty of Portsmouth and Avari
Fauconier of Staten Island; two great aunts; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends; and special friend, Connie White of Washington, D.C.

A funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist
Church by the Rev. Veronica Thomas with burial in Calvary Cemetery . Hale
Funeral Home is in charge.
