He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Baptist Church Berkley where he served as a member of the choir and was a Sunday school teacher. Before joining First Baptist Church Berkley, he served as a deacon at Wayland Baptist Church in Baltimore. He leaves to treasure his memory a son, Ellsworth Johnson Jr.; two sisters, Alice Walton and Frances Prince. Also left to treasure his memory is a grandson, Ellsworth Johnson III (Terri); great-grandson, Nicholas R. Johnson; two sisters- in-law, Ellen Johnson and Malvis Taborn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing will be held Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N. George Washington Highway, Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Berkley, 706 E. Berkley Ave., Norfolk, with Dr. William D. Tyree III presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk.
