A native of Bennettsville, S.C., he was the son of the late Mary Lee and Wilson Johnson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He retired from Contractors Paving Co. in 1977. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald ``Duck'' Johnson, and two brothers, Rufus and Burnice Johnson. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Frances R. Johnson; three sons, William and Jeffery Johnson of Norfolk, and Cal Lilly of South Carolina; three daughters, Valerie Turner and Frances Young of Norfolk and Pamela Murray of Richmond; a brother, Wilson Johnson of Norfolk; two sisters, Rebecca Pooler of Washington, D.C., and Bea Hooks of New York; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Graves Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Jessie Fetherstone. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery . The family will assemble at 10 a.m. at the family's home.
