The Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark Tuesday April 9, 1935
Mrs. Harriet Williams Johnston, aged 88 years, widow of Charles Howard 
Johnston, and daughter of the late Henry Howell and Anna Prince Johnston, 
died at 9:45 o’clock yesterday morning at the residence, C-8 Palisade 
Apartments, 1400 Hampton Boulevard, after a lingering illness. She was a 
native of Charleston, S.C., for the past 60 years. She was a member of St, 
Andrews Episcopal Church. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. R. E. Jordan 
and Miss Anna Johnston, of Norfolk; one son, James H. Johnston, of Norfolk; 
and two grandchildren, Mrs. Edwin D. Kyle, Jr. of New York, and Miss 
Virginia Harriet Johnston, of Norfolk. Funeral services will be held at the 
above residence tomorrow at 12 o’clock noon, with the Rev. E. Ruffin Jones, 
D.D., rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be 
in Elmwood Cemetery.
