Brooks Johnston Sr., 71, of 522 Spotswood Ave., president of Atlantic Paper Corp., and well-known in Episcopal circles, died Friday in a hospital. A native of Norfolk, he was a son of James J. and Mrs. Virginia Wilkerson Johnston and the husband of Mrs. Virginia Callender Johnston. He was a member of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Virginia J. Clements of Great Bridge, Chesapeake; three sons, J. Brooks Johnston Jr. of Mobjack, and Edward C. Johnston and Robert R. Johnston of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Lulie J. Sweeney of Norfolk; and 14 grandchildren. The body will be taken from H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church for a funeral service Sunday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Herbert Smith. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
